We work hard to put on productions of a great quality and are proud of the standards we achieve. We routinely welcome Behind the Arras to review our productions and their reviews can be found here.
We are also delighted to have been nominated for and won awards at the Birmingham Festival of Acting & Musical Entertainment (BFAME) over several years. At the March 2023 awards, Highbury Players won 5 cups: The Stanwyn Cup for outstanding achievement for The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde; The Savoy Cup for most outstanding female performance to Pip Olliver as the Old PM in Handbagged; The Brodribb Cup for best director to Paul Steventon-Marks for The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde; The Roy and Betty Gaunt Cup for best supporting cast in a full-length drama for Northanger Abbey; and finally The Arcadian Trophy for technical achievement for The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Highbury Academy
The Players also hosts the Highbury Academy, which started life in 2014 and since then has developed a number of projects for both internal and external viewing. The main purpose of the project is to provide an outlet for those members who find it difficult to consistently get involved in Main House productions but would like to ‘keep their hand in’ with like-minded people. Topics covered include improvisation exercises, workshops on character development and directing plus discovering and encouraging new writings (plays, sketches etc).
